Last Day of June in the Garden
Perdita loves the veggie patch, especially the little Leek avenue…
.
.
…and the sugar peas!
.
.
We have Sweet Peas too, probably a couple of weeks away from blossoming…
.
.
…and Swiss Chard everywhere! Last year we let two plants go to seed and now we find it all over the place!
.
.
The slugs love it as much as we do! Planting Marigolds and surrounding the plants with copper mesh helps a bit, but there is enough to share.
.
.
The most thrilling thing for us is the appearance of some rhubarb leaves. We had transplanted a big root from its strangled position among the irises, but feared it had not survived, the new leaves bode well for next year’s rhubarb crop!

Your garden looks so fruitful and lush! What a wonderful walk with that wee wheel barrow Perdita. It’s so very good to see you once again.
It’s been a long and cold spring, we hope for a few more hours of daily sunshine now that we are in the “Dog Days” of summer. Hearing about the high temperatures elsewhere though, we daren’t complain! The garden is happy anyway, and Perdita is a good example of being glad for what we have.
Beautiful dear Hitty Lady, I loved all photographs, seems so exciting to watch all these plants growing… Thank you, Love, nia
It is exciting and very rewarding…we hope for good rhubarb next year, but we are enjoying the lovely Swiss Chard and peas meanwhile, and beans to come!
Exactly dear Hitt. y Lady, it is so beautiful and healthy to eat vegetables/fruits from your own garden. We are late for this, last Summer we ate some of vegetables but our neighbours share sometimes, they are so nice. Last weekend from a village (of İstanbul in the West) sent us red plums picked up from their trees… I am thinking to make marmalade… Love, nia
I love your plum and vanilla marmalade recipe – I made it last year and my granddaughter thought it was the best she had ever tasted!
I am so happy to hear this, it’s been really so delicious. Much Love, nia
I enjoyed the tour of the garden with Perdita. Such a thriving salad bowl!
Yes! We have been eating lots of swiss chard, and fresh sugar peas – yummy!
I love Perdita’s wheelbarrow! I have just done some harvesting in my winter garden: three big wombok, some purple climbing beans and cut and come again lettuces. I wish my snow peas would flower, they just keep growing and climbing! The zucchini are flowering (only male flowers so far, but I see some female ones coming along), my baby beets are flourishing and my tomatoe plants are massive, especially the Romas. Lots of flowers, so I have my fingers crossed.
What a grand-sounding harvest! It sounds like some delicious meals in the offing!
Your garden is thriving!
Everything looks so green and lush, in spite of the slugs!
