Berries and Nuts
The Snowberries are plump…

…and Hawthorn berries abundant.

Blue Oregon Grape clusters remind Coriander of her particular carving origins…

…and Mountain Ash berries are weighing down the branches. This is a special tree for Hitty folk…

.
…the original doll in the story Hitty – Her First Hundred Years is said to have been carved of Mountain Ash wood!

We are in the season of berries, nuts and acorns…

…the squirrels are busy!!

I love the way that berries extend the season of colour in the garden when many of the flowers are over. I think the squirrels have beaten me to the hazel nuts – Again!
I love that too – there are some marvellous colours of berries and nuts! Drat about the pestiferous squirrels!
I have a cotoneaster which is smothered in berries at the moment and so cheerful.
The berries are so very vibrant, pretty and plentiful….nuts abound as do squirrels! We have lots of trees here and it’s hard to find whole nuts that haven’t been nibbled into. I like your squirrel! Did he or she just make themselves at home there on Quimper Street?
The squirrel arrived in a box of “stuff” on its way to the second hand store, but I rescued it! It looks like a vintage Steiff toy, possibly belonging to Favourite photographer’s mother – but missing it’s velvet nut. Squirrel however, says real hazelnuts will do very well!
wow that is a lot of berries. The bittersweet is just beginning to turn colors here. most other berries are already gone. I enjoyed seeing Coriander exploring the bounty there. And of course my favorite pasttime….reading. Lovely post.
Thanks! Little Coriander is enjoying the season – she isn’t even a month old – everything is new and exciting!
I forgot to add the squirrels are very busy here also, munching hickory nuts , acorns and black walnuts. none of our squirrels are white!
Fall is a happy time for squirrels isn’t it!?
The little books! I loved this image!
The Hittys have their noses in little books all the time – we love them!
