Winter Garden
Floradora and Malarkey wondered what was going on in our January garden…
.
.
…they expected to see some flowers like the snowdrop…
.
.
…a dark Hellebore…
.
.
…and a pretty pink-tinged one!
.
.
The witch Hazel is blooming about when we expected it to…
.
.
…and so is the earliest Rhododendron.
.
.
…but the beautiful red anemone has been blooming all fall, and winter! What a pretty sight out the dining room window it has been…
.
.
…and look – lovely little rose. It has been a gloomy soggy dark winter in Victoria, officially the wettest winter this century, but the garden is very encouraging, and we are happy to hear that the rainfall will help alleviate some drought, and hopefully diminish the summer forest fires!

You have such a positive outlook on the winter gloom. It always amazes me that you have such early blooming flowers and trees (witch hazel, or would that be a bush?) there. Yes, may the rains keep the fires at bay. And, what lovely, lovely sweaters your dear little ladies are wearing! The color is vibrant, isn’t it?
We love the wool that these sweaters are made from – such a spring-like and encouraging green! I have seen Witch Hazel as both bush and tree – this one is a little bush as yet but it wants to be a tree!
Oh, how gorgeous!!!! And a rose blooming in the winter…. a sign of hope! ❤ We need all the miracles these days, don’t we? 🙂
We do need miracles! Sometimes we have to look harder than others, but the garden always seems to have some magic in store.
Your garden is ahead of mine and much more colourful, it is heartwarming to see the blossoms. I looks like you have been busy knitting, the sweaters are pretty. Hope your wordpress recognizes my new email address.
We have “approved” your new address, so hopefully your comments should get through! We especially love the Witch Hazel at this time of year, and our mean temperature is 5 degrees more at sea level than it is up the hill, so it is not surprising that we are a little ahead!
Oooh – how beautiful – some flowers in your Winter garden!
That’s a west coast winter for you! Sometimes the wet and gloom seems just endless, and then we are particularly glad about the flowers!
So beautiful dear Hitty Lady and how amazing your Winter Garden in your Miniature World too. Loved so much. Thank you, have a nice day and weekend, Love, nia
The garden is a joy to us, even on the wet and cold days we can look out the window and marvel at nature. We are so lucky!
Oh my! Beautiful! Thank you so much for sharing! Wow… those anemone are just gorgeous!
The anemones are just amazing this year, we have really enjoyed them!
The only flowers I can find in my garden at the moment are gorse which is pretty but not nice to pick. Like you we have had more rain than we would ideally like but the last week or so has been very cold so i don’t think any more flowers will appear just yet.
We always hold our breath at this time of year – the frosts and icy weather can come and kill off all the blossoms as it did last year! This year we are lucky! I agree gorse isn’t nice to pick, but it does smell nice!
MY garden is buried beneath ice and snow with frigid temps……so nice to visit your lovely garden with so many blooming delights. Love the girls in their snuggly sweaters.
Warm sweaters are important here! Also raincoats…I hope your deep freeze will ease soon!
