  1. Oh wow,! How strong was the seismic shock? Interesting times…but still, the coziness of the QH household brings warmth and stability. Thank you.

    • We definitely noticed the shaking and heard the earth rumble and things in the house clatter. The cats in the human household were terrified, and it lasted long enough that the humans were getting concerned before it petered out. It was about 8 seconds long where we were, and the final measurement was 4.1 on the Richter scale.

  2. Dear Hitty Lady, earthquakes are always fearful for me. I hope and wish not being anything negative. Earth actually has been shakening for such long time and more earthquakes happening and most of them high… Your new projects beautiful. You know I love your miniature World, look these lovely cats how afraid… Thank you dear, be in safe and have a nice day, Much Love, nia

    • Thank you nia, we live in an earthquake zone as you do, so we are used to a bit of shaking and rumbling. We are all waiting for “the big one” that is supposed to arrive some time soon :0

      • Oh dear Hitty Lady, this is fearful, as like us. We are waiting too. Everyday geologists, seismologists are warning us, but especially officials!!! We have to get ready but nothing has been done still… It would be a big disaster in my city. I do pray. What can I do… I hope and wish you are living in a safety house, and in a safe place. Love, nia

  3. Do you get a lot of seismic shocks? No wonder the Hitty cats hid and where better than inside a tube of warm knitting? Your sock ruler is great – I haven’t seen one before but so useful – at least until you turn the heel – not sure how it would work after that. Self patterning yarn makes such interesting socks (and Hitty jumpers ;))

    • We have little shocks every day apparently, and though they are not often big enough to be registered by humans, this was the third noticeable one in a month! The scientists say they are coincidental though and not connected. We do live in an earthquake zone so it isn’t a big surprise.

      • I remember there was one when I was a child and the cups rattled but that is my only experience of them. Quite disconcerting at the time.

  4. two things my Japanese roommate taught me about being prepared for “the big one”, always have some cash on hand and keep the gas tank filled up – if the electricity is off cash registers, credit cards and gas pumps might not work. And always have a roll of toilet paper in the emerg. kit. Colours in the yarn are really pretty.

    • Great tips! And I love the yarn colours too. A friend who was in the 2011 Christchurch earthquake advised putting teflon pans in the emergency kit because they use less water, which might be important if there is a potential shortage of drinking water!
