Göta Canal 2

We enjoyed four days and three nights on the Juno…

…there was always something new to see, even on a rainy day…

…passing through farmlands and little towns…

We got off to walk…

…and watched the Juno make her way through the “lock staircases”

There was a slow progress through the locks at Berg…we were able to walk for over an hour, and my cousin who lives 20 minutes away from there, popped by to have a cup of tea.

In the morning we were on the Baltic sea!

…where we visited the Viking settlement and fortress of Brevik…

…and saw a sprang loom!

…and later that day we arrived in the beautiful and busy city of Stockholm!

The trip on the Juno was a wonderful interlude, I’m so glad we were able to include these few gentle days in this trip, and in my life!

    • The Juno is a small beautiful boat, lots of varnished wood, small bunks and exquisite meals. There is a Swedish mystery written in the 1960’s that features the Juno’s sister ship Diana, called Roseanna. It’s quite a horrid read but does describe the ship and canal travel pretty well… introduction by Henning Mankell!

  1. Ohhh my what a time you are having. I loved the scenes along the canal and that you got to visit the museum. I see the little wooden girls are enjoying it all. I do love that you are sharing it with us.

  2. While I was nursing my broken wrist and then post the op on my hand I watched some programmes about people who live and work on the canals in the UK and another series about train journeys. Both looked lovely – sitting watching the scenery pass slowly by with no need to drive or navigate!

    • The lower part of the canal is still used for shipping and transportation using larger vessels built to fit that part of the canal (just) The downhill section towards Stockholm seems to be mostly pleasure craft. Those programmes sound very interesting!
