On the first day of fall, Coriander and Vanilla went up in the picking basket to the top of the William’s Bon Chrétien pear tree…

…and came back down with a couple of small pears…

…which they took into the cupboard for Jane and Margaret.

Then they went back up the tree for a couple of enormous ones! These are the biggest pears we have ever seen, – 11.5 and 12 cm tall and each weighs about 500 g (over a pound each)! The human pastry chef wasn’t quite ready to deal with them so they went into the fridge…

…but some of the medium-sized ones went into this Pear Frangipane tart.
