On the first day of fall, Coriander and Vanilla went up in the picking basket to the top of the William’s Bon Chrétien pear tree…

…and came back down with a couple of small pears…

…which they took into the cupboard for Jane and Margaret.

Then they went back up the tree for a couple of enormous ones! These are the biggest pears we have ever seen, – 11.5 and 12 cm tall and each weighs about 500 g (over a pound each)! The human pastry chef wasn’t quite ready to deal with them so they went into the fridge…

…but some of the medium-sized ones went into this Pear Frangipane tart.

The silliest pear became a table decoration for a recent birthday…

…and the local bandits helped clean up the last of the windfalls!

love seeing what the Hittys and humans got up to with the pears. I only have one solitary pear on my tree !

I want to ride in the picking basket, though I suspect I would be too heavy for it – ha! Fresh pears and so many delicious things that can be made from them! The ladies look proud of their tart, and the “bandit” made me laugh. Happy Autumn!
I think it would be a rather seasicky ride, the way it swings around and up and down, but I was never one for those really wild fairground rides. Bring Beastie and come visit, and you can have your ride vicariously!

the girls are brave going up in the basket, how did they fit in with the extra large pears? The tart looks wonderful. Some folks may think the bandits are cute but not me and there they are out in full daylight!
It was a one Hitty – one pear situation with those big ones! The raccoons were very bold that day! We try and keep up with the windfalls so as to not encourage them but it is hard, they all seem to ripen and then drop at once!
Your baked goods are mouth-watering and pretty. Congratulations on the wonderful harvest. I’m always charmed by the hitty’s country-styled attire, especially the aprons and tiny sweaters.
Thanks! It was a great crop of pears, we have eaten so many tasty pear desserts, and also a pear in the breakfast muesli, pear, cracker, cheese + honey snacks and pears on their own.

The girls would love to go on those terrifying rides at the midway, but I am not taking them!
