Rose’s new Petticoat

The Quimper Hitty’s human found a pattern for a doll’s petticoat in a four-year-old magazine.  It was designed for a larger doll, and based on a pattern from 1893.

A Kind Hitty friend adapted it for a six-inch doll and invented the matching Liberty Bodice pattern.  She generously shared her adjusted pattern and Rose helped knit them up. The eyelets seem to have disappeared out of the pattern though. I wonder if it has anything to do with the European style of knitting that is used in this household, with yarn held in the left hand?

Rose says the only way to find out is to try the pattern again.

  1. Eyelets often show up more noticeably after blocking…. did you block her petticoat? Also, try taking the yarn over the needle in the opposite direction than you did in the first petticoat and see if they show up better. The undies are lovely!

    • Thanks for the suggestions – I did block the petticoat, though not the bodice…the pattern has (make one, knit-two-together) in one row, and purl in the next row. I will try knitting two together through the back of the loops in the red one, and if that doesn’t work will try the yarn-over method, though that makes a bigger hole. The Hittys won’t complain if I end up with multiple petticoats!

  2. What Hitty wouldn’t feel all cozy and warm in these. They look so soft like fresh fallen evening snow. I’m starting to look forward to those cooler days and nights.

  3. What wonderful Christmas gifts those would make…your girls will be delighted ..and warm. You are indeed so talented! And Rose always looks so lovely.
