Catkins

Draped in Garrya elliptica.

On the walk home from work today (Hitty in my pocket as usual), Tansy spotted this tree, drooping with catkins!

A warm welcome.

Back at the Hitty Cupboard, Tansy was greeted by her favourite catkin of all.

What an unusual tree! Did Tansy mention what kind it is? Or is she still researching it?
That mottled little catkin sure pops up a lot in Hitty photographs 🙂

  After searching the internet for “foot-long catkins”, we’re pretty sure it is a Silk Tassel Bush or Garrya eliptica.
  It’s a plant native to California, and does well in a seaside climate. h-m-m-m I can hear the Hittys scheming.

I have never seen catkins drooping from a tree. What a beautiful picture. I think Tansy loves her little catkin. A perfect pet for her.
