Haida Gwaii Wildlife
On her trip to Haida Gwaii, Tansy kept her gimlet eye open for interesting beings…
…and was privileged to catch a glimpse of a humpback whale…
…and she also saw the strange sight of this deer swimming across a .5 km stretch of water between one side of Sunday inlet to the other. Despite being land mammals, the deer do swim about, presumably having spied some greener grass on the other side of the inlet.
The shore is also an interesting place to spot wildlife…here is Tansy at Puffin Cove – she did see puffins but they were too small and far away to take pictures of…
.
… but Tansy got up close to a sea cucumber, which despite being named after a vegetable, is in fact an echinoderm (a radially symmetrical animal related to sea urchins and starfish) …
.
.
…and here is a little cephalopod, washed up on the shore, but still cute!
.
.
Ravens abound, but Tansy saw more of them on the North Island than she did in the Southern archipelago…
The only zebras on Haida Gwaii, are the plastic lawn chair variety!

Tansy just seems to fit in so well to the environment she’s visited. I’m enjoying these interesting narratives and scenery. The sea cucumber looks quite amazing!
Tansy loves visiting Haida Gwaii, she always sees new and interesting things! Sea cucumbers are totally amazing beings!
WOW! and ahhhhhhhhhhhh! The photos this morning are spellbinding and make me long for the Coast…. thank you for sharing this glorious beauty!!!!
You are welcome, do come back to the coast, we could probably rustle up a local sea cucumber, and definitely a deer or two, though not necessarily swimming!!
We are missing the Coast so much! Perhaps some of our airmiles could be used….
what wonderful adventures Tansy – and her photographer are having.
They sure are having many beautiful and interesting experiences!
oh my what adventures for Tansy. Great nature photos. And I just noticed the detail on the buttons of her coat…really cute! So our Tansy is not only a fearless and intrepid explorer but also quite the fashionista!
Tansy likes her umbrella buttons – she was ready for rain as is usual on Haida Gwaii…the raincoat is useful for keeping dry during the splashy boat rides too!
Great adventure for Tansy and an educational experience for us who are not with Tansy.
