Tansy Comes Home for Lunar New Year 2016
Tansy is a very Lucky Hitty and has been invited by various different people to go travelling hither and yon. She recently spent several months in China, accompanying a friend who was participating in a professional exchange at the Nanjing Museum. Tansy spent most of the weekends zooming around the country on fast trains, getting to visit many iconic locations of cultural significance.
But during the week Tansy’s travelling companion worked at the Nanjing Museum with colleagues and a translator. Mr Ge Chung was a very kind and doll-friendly man who made Tansy and her travelling companion very welcome at the Museum. Here they are on the Museum’s terrace. In the distance is Purple Mountain, at the top of which is the mausoleum of Dr Sun Yat Sen.
Tansy’s travelling companion made sure that she got a good look at the museum exhibits, and photographed her in front of this folk textile,
And some spectacular Chinese Opera Costumes like this one with golden dragons on red background,
and this one with gold dragons on gold and blue background.
She also admired the luminous blue ceramics,
and beautiful sculptures.
On another weekend, they dashed over to Xi’an, and saw this beautiful golden building and crowds of people in the Muslim Quarter!
Tansy was also absolutely thrilled with the chance to visit the Terracotta Army in situ…
…she (not surprisingly perhaps) thought of them as kin, and felt amazed at their number, variation and size. She was also very glad that she is made of wood since even very old and very large china dolls seem prone to broken heads!
Tansy finds travelling very interesting, and mind-expanding – always filled with new experiences and many cultural differences… particularly in China! Tansy loved her time away, but is also very glad to be back home in time to participate in our Lunar New Year’s celebrations! She will relish the relative peace and quiet of the Hitty Cupboard!
She and the rest of the Quimper Hittys wish all our friends a very Happy Lunar New Year (of the Monkey)!
Kung Hei Fat Choi! 恭喜發財
.

What a great, once in a lifetime experience you had, Tansy dear. We loved seeing the photos you shared.
However, are you sure there is peace and quiet to be found in the Hitty Cupboard? We have it on good authority that there might be a rather large reptile lodging there. He seems tame, but do take care, just in case!
With our love,
Mary and Roberta N-Q-H xxx
I imagine that the definition ofpeaceand quiet is relative…Tansy might be a good addition to the reptile eradication team…
I’m sure a traveling doll was thrilled with her trip.
I am sure she was! The rest of the us are trying hard to be happy for her, but can’t quite repress our feelings of envy as well.
Looks like Tansy had a wonderful time. She is quite the traveller. She certainly saw some wonderful sights indeed. Happy Lunar New Year!
She certainly did have a wonderful time, and is full of stories of her adventures. She will be keeping the denizens of the cupboard enthralled for weeks!
what a marvelous adventure Tansy had, she is certainly a global Hitty. I would love to listen in on all the stories at the tea table.
Tansy does get around! Fortunately for us, she likes to recount her adventures over a cup of Oolong tea and an almond cookie! We love to hear about the places she’s been and the people she’s met!
Tansy ..you are amazing. We here in the Midwest admire your courage and spirit of adventure. Thank you for sharing your journey with us. And on a side note we were blown away by those examples of embroidery!!! amazing!!!
Tansy was very excited to be invited back to China, and so excited that this time she was able to see the Great Wall and the terracotta warriors! Isn’t that embroidery amazing!!
Such lovely textiles and porcelain and terracotta – Oh my! Thank you for the marvelous photos… Tansy’s a lucky traveler!
You are very welcome (and only a couple of them were photoshopped!)
