Apple Green and Pink

A friend put a huck lace tea towel warp on her little loom, and invited Constance and her human to do a bit of weaving!

Slashing the warp
Our weaving friend had made some tea towels and cut them off, so we had to re-tension the warp. We used the slashing method, which involved making knots in the warp ends, and threading a cord through the warp clusters, and around the front rod. Once the warp ends were all attached, we could adjust the cord until the tension was even all the way across.

The warp colours are a pretty apple green, with pink stripes.

Evening the tension
At the beginning we wove several rows of burgundy weft, to see if the tension needed any further evening out.

Beating the warp
Then we could get into the huck lace pattern. It might seem a little complicated when you just read it on paper, but it is easy to get into a swinging rhythm…Constance helped quite a bit, either right down on the web…

…or sometimes in a supervisory capacity. Hitty Constance and her human both find weaving very meditative.

End of the warp
We mostly wove in green with pink stripes, balancing the warps and wefts, but we did the last few rows in pink, just for fun!

Lovely! Thanks so much to our weaving friend! We haven’t had a chance to do any weaving for a while, but now we are inspired to make room in our “spare time” again, and have ordered some materials for our own loom!!

The loom, the instructions, and the execution are far beyond my capabilities but I certainly appreciate the talent that you, Constance and your friend have. The finished runner was beautiful. I can’t get over the way you guys did it…especially that pretty little design inside each square. The color was lovely.
We like being part of the process – string goes on the loom, cloth comes off – what a miracle!
