Spring Quince
The morning air was cool and damp, but Guttersnipe and Mudlark are impervious to the cold…
.
.
.
.
…fortunately they are also impervious to thorns, and nipped over the Quince Tree’s chicken-proof fence…
.
.
…and then shimmied up it’s trunk!
.
.
Out in the branches they found…
.
.
…beautiful plump fuzzy green swirled buds!
.
.
They did a happy dance in the tree…
.
.
…and went home to dream of quince blossoms, and tarts, and fruit, and nectar.

Oh how sweet! The chicken proof fence caught my attention. I can see why they wouldn’t want to make their way through it. Happy quincing! Looks like the first step has been confirmed-BUDS!
The Chicken-proof fence is very effective! We haven’t had any root exposure since the fowls were excluded. We are all happy to see the buds on our little tree – Hooray!
Wonderful characters, these two – so lively, uplifting. (It truly is amazing how expressive the body language of little Hitty’s can be – thank you!) I also appreciated your live chicken-proof fence …
Guttersnipe and Mudlark are delighted you think so! The chicken-proof fence is made with cut rose and blackberry canes, so it isn’t alive, though it used to be!
I loved seeing them dance in the quince tree….so sweet. Glad they are such tough little girls, able to confront chilly weather and thorny vines! Intrepid is the word for this duo.
They are happy to get out of the cupboard once in a while…does Marie Claire have any chicken-prevention suggestions?
