The wishes are written on paper, and tied to a tree.  The Quimper Hittys have written wishes that they hope will inspire  themselves and improve the world…

Tanabata Thoughts

Tanabata Thoughts

Tanabata is the Star Festival, remembering the story of the Weaver Princess Star Shokujo (Vega) who fell in love with the Cowherd Star Kengyu (Altair).  They were so happy together that they forgot to perform their tasks, and the gods became angry because they had no new clothes and the herds were untended.  The lovers were separated forever, and only allowed to visit each other once a year on the seventh day of the seventh month…

  1. Textile enthusiasts like you, bring much culture to us. Thank you! Life in the Quimper Hitty Cupboard is always so interesting and pretty.

  2. The girls and your tree (not to mention the story you tell) are all lovely. Thank you for sharing your loves and your gifts.

  3. So very interesting….and your link…fascinating. I loved the part about the magpies forming a bridge with their wings..and if it rains that day the lovers can not meet. your photos are great. The girls kimonos are fabulous.. Their wishes are all so altruistic!! Wonderful posting.

  4. The Quimper Hittys love this festival, and enjoy wearing their Kimono to honour it properly. We’ve been wanting to make a wishing tree for a long time – luckily the stars were aligned this year! There were a few personal wishes…Patience hopes that Mungo will take up a new instrument, and so she wished for more beautiful music, Min thinks Kimono and cups of tea are all very well, but she wished for more fun, and Constance wished for more travel…we’ll see what happens – eh?
