Little Lillies
Willa and Rose strolled out to the front garden…
.
.
…to check whether the deer defences were holding…
.
.
…and they are!!!
.
.
Behind Rose’s arm you can see the earliest leaves that got chomped as soon as they appeared, but after that disappointing episode the human has protected the developing Lily-of-the-Valley with wire cages and milk crates every night!
.
.
Sweet little white bells are appearing…
.
.
…they smell so sweet…
.
.
…can you hear the fairies singing?!
.
.
I can nearly hear the ringing/singing! Our Lily of the Valley are a bit behind yours and never seem to do anything but flourish and go out of bounds. There are surely deer around but, they must have other delectables that let us enjoy the little bells without nips.
The Lily-of-the-Valley in our garden have been chomped down by the deer every year since we planted them out – until now! Maybe they just need a little time to establish themselves and will then be able to withstand the grazing…we hope so!
My lilies of the valley are blooming now too. And I do hear the fairies singing.
Oh lovely! They are so pretty and delicate – I hope some day we will have enough to spare so we can pick a little bouquet, and leave some for the fairies!
I love lily of the valley.
Me too – such a fleeting prettiness.
a lovely tune but I can also hear the clip-clop of deer hooves.
At least we can hear them coming! The Milk crates seem to be working for now to keep them at bay!
Muguet de Mai! Lucky Hittys!
The Hittys are lucky! We are too, and feel so happy to have preserved the sweet flowers – so far!
oh how sweet they are in their white pinafores…of course they hear the Fairy bells ringing. they are such special little people.
