With the plane landing in Masset Tansy’s Haida Gwaii trip continued south on the main road by car through the lovely green forest all the way to the village of Queen Charlotte.
The wind has shifted, and though the forest fire smoke is still present, it is higher up, and more of a haze. This gives the Quimper Hitty Human the chance to hang the laundry outdoors for the first time in many days, and gives Opal and Agathe a brilliant idea!(more…)
The smoky haze from forest fires continues to blanket this part of the world, even though the fires themselves are hundreds of kilometers away. With the sun shining through smoke, everything has a yellowish brown tint. Constance and I went for a very short walk to Beacon Hill Park at lunch time and saw a lot more yellow and brown. The grass usually dries up, but later in the summer – the dryness does seem very early and very yellow…last year the long grass in the park wasn’t mown until mid-August.
We are having a heat wave here in Victoria. Comparatively speaking it isn’t so bad, but we are not used to temperatures up to 30 degrees. It is so dry that there are many forest fires, and though they are far away from here, the sky is all hazy. The heat makes some people feel very sluggish – Opal and Agathe are lying around in the back yard.(more…)
