May Maunderings…

Sewing

What have the Quimper Hittys been doing?  Malarkey has been helping me with a giant (though also very small) sewing project. It’s now complete and on the way to it’s destination…

Knitting

…and Floradora has been working on a knitting project with me. I was given a skein of beautiful wool for my birthday – it was hand spun by a friend in colours she knew I would like!

Gardening

May is a glorious time in the Quimper garden.  Yesterday Henrietta and I planted some zinnias around the edges of my vegetable patch.  One of my dear Hitty friends (you may have read her comments under “dogsdolls”) died suddenly, and I still can hardly believe it. She had told me only a week or so ago that her grandmother used to plant zinnias around her vegetable patch, so I am doing that in memory of her. Goodbye my dear friend.

Sneezing

And Constance (and the human) have been suffering with a week-long dreadful lurgy followed by days of coughing. Constance is glad to report that the lovely Hitty quilt from Australia is very effective in a cosy and cheery-uppy way.

  1. I am so sorry that your friend passed suddenly. I am sending her blessings on her journey and holding you in my heart as you grieve her death. Huge hugs! And, I hope that you recover quickly from the dreaded lurgy! More hugs….. ❤

      • It is such a shock to have a sudden death tear a hole in the world as you know and love it, isn’t it? And, oh my goodness, grief simply has to be navigated in each moment as it comes… so, I send you more tender hugs and gentle arm around your shoulders…. ❤

  2. It’s a lot to take in when a friend dies suddenly. I’m sorry for your loss. Planting zinnias is a lovely way to honor her. I hope you feel better soon. That ting quilt is charming.

    • We liked the idea of planting zinnias in the vegetable patch anyway, and now doing it in memory of my friend makes me happy and also sad, but I think she would scold me if I wallowed in it so I’ll look forward to the blooms and be happy for them!

  3. I hope you and Constance recover fully soon. Do you have a cosy quilt to snuggle under too? I love plants that are there to remind me of someone I have lost.
