Sma’ Shot Day
Tansy reminds us that it is an important day today!

Hattie wears her ribbon shawl, since we haven’t yet found a Paisley Shawl small enough!

Mungo says that any day that includes Bagpipes and marching is a good day...

Since this is a household of socially responsible weavers, with some Scots connections, it is a very important day in the Quimper Hitty cupboard!
Sma’ Shot day is celebrated in Paisley Scotland on the first Saturday in July. It commemorates the successful strike of the downtrodden weavers in the early 1800’s, whose insistence on being paid fairly for their work was one of the first recorded examples of united action bringing fair wages and better working conditions…Click here for a link to the events in Paisley Scotland today
Happy Sma’ Shot Day!

Mungo must have been totally thrilled to live in a household of weavers and owning the only set of pipes. Has he done with marching and playing or is he still proudly pacing back and forth?
Mungo is always in a good mood – at the moment he is still marching, but the girls are wondering if the promise of shortbread will cease the wailing of the pipes…
Lovely. I’ll have to keep this in mind since husband has more heavy Scottish background but I’ve got the weavers. Perchance, any thoughts to us on where the wonderful doll loom came from?
We bought the little loom at an open air market in Savonlinna Finland last year!
I thoroughly enjoyed the link to Paisly…esp thoughts of the Slug In A Bottle market and the “spectacular Burning of the Cork” . Made me wish that I was a world traveler. Sadly I am not so I shall content myself with viewing your celebration of this important date. The photos are just grand! Always a joy to see Mungo and his pipes!
We liked the idea of the Slug In A Bottle market too! I wonder if that is an idea that could catch on in other localities?
oh my, I’m totally enthralled. Never heard of Sma’ Shot Day but I fully support fair pay for weavers!
Yes! Sma’ Shot is a great choice for a holiday!
