Opal and Agathe Put up apples
The Garden Friends get ready to process apples from the back yard tree…
We wash, core, peel and slice the apples, but skip the ascorbic acid/lemon juice step. We find the colour does not change that much, and affects the taste not at all….
The girls can’t help themselves, and get a blast of damp, warm, appley air while peering down the vent…
Now they wait for four hours…
.
.
…and finally get to the tasting part!

Yummy! Good job, gals!
We love eating our apples all year round!
Yum!
It is hard to keep up with the apple harvest – good thing I have Opal and Agathe to help!
The Quimper Hittys must be the healthiest Hittys around, with all the fresh fruits to harvest and process for winter consumption!
We like to eat them – just as they are, or wrapped around an almond for a snack…if we freeze them, they break up into tiny chips which can be added to porridge or muffins, there are all kind of delicious ways to eat dried apples!
Oh wow a dehydrator! I am not going to let the Rose Cottage Hittys see this either as we have ALL been wanting one of these! What a lovely store they will have for winter.
Yes, we have bags and bags of them! They are much easier to keep this way, because they take up less room and last longer than crates of apples!
You have inspired the Country HIttys to unearth the dehydrator and get to work. Thank you for your help and great photos.
🙂 glad to inspire the country Hittys and their humans! More dried apples, yay!
