Shells
Tansy has just spent a summer among archaeologists. During the recent stint on Haida Gwaii, Tansy and her companions clambered around on the foreshore looking for evidence of use by ancient peoples! When the crew stopped for lunch, human gum boots came off but Tansy continued looking for interesting things on the beach.
There are beautiful pearly shells of all shapes and sizes washed up on the beaches, including this lovely abalone…
…this moon snail,
and this pretty turban snail shell – with its periostracum missing.
This cockle was still half-buried in the sand…
Tansy sat in a half of a Geoduck shell!
Contemplated bathing in the rainwater-filled mussel tub,
And got snapped at by a scallop.
This was her favourite shell!

Can’t decide if I’m homesick or hungry…but I did love Tansy’s sea-shelling trek. What a gentle adventure – all save the snapping scallop!
She had a great time wandering the beaches and keeping the archaeologists company, working and encouraging!
What wonderful finds for Tansy. I would assume her vocabulary of these zoological finds has increased tremendously. She’s been a great guide through Haida Gwaii and some of it’s wonders.
She had good teachers and good company, learning as you go is the best way!
Those are spectacular seashells! And, so glad that she escaped the snappings of the scallop 🙂 Amazing beauty!
She saw so many pretty shells, and is tempted to take up scuba diving so she can see the animals alive under water!
just lovely photos…we were especially taken by the moon snail. Very appealing. Thanks for the lesson naming all the shells. We land locked Hitty folk appreciate this!
We like the variety of sea creatures – there are so many interesting animals in the world!
Those shells are so interesting, Tansy is so interested in them. I’m sure she will not give them to Constance or little Min.
Since it is a park, Tansy left them all where they were!
