Scrap Happy!
I have been sewing for a doll that is the same size as Rose (6 1/4 inches), using fabrics donated to me by the person who will eventually receive the complete outfit…Rose’s shift is made from a linen hand towel, with a scrap of tatting around the neck, drawn up with a silk ribbon.
.
.
I made a pocket using a tea cloth.
.
.
…and tied it on to Rose’s waist…(she doesn’t have a corset yet, but she will!)
.
.
…I had a nice scrap of grey silk for the petticoat, but as it was not quite big enough, I made the back of the petticoat in linen. This technique was used in some human-sized 18th century petticoats. The padding should have been wool, but alas I loaned my bag of roving to a friend who is experimenting with needle felting, so I used polyester from a bit of an ancient duvet (I bought the double bed size duvet in England in 1987, and recently cut a side off to make it a single bed size).
.
.
The quilting follows the existing lines of stitching on the grey silk scrap, with some additional stitching.

Voila – Rose has a Petticoat! We plan to make a corset and a sack-back gown – maybe for next month!
ScrapHappy is a group of bloggers using up scraps of anything – no new materials…Anything made of genuine scraps is eligible, and posts come out once a month on the 15th!
Here are the links for the ScrapHappy people – headed by Kate and Gun, who devised and run the group – I am a new member , this is my first Scrap Happy post – Yay!

Oh la la! I LOVE what you’ve done….I have a quilted skirt somewhat finished for our Hittys (sitting in the “closet” for years now). I’m going to check out the group as scraps of this and that are most interesting to me. Thank you for sharing these beautiful items with us.
We hope you will dig out your quilted Hitty skirt! We love the idea of scrap happiness, and were so happy to be introduced to this group!
OMG! Such lovely work!!! This is a gem…but then, you always come up with treasures. This is a wonderful idea and makes me wish I lived in your neck of the woods, if only to see all the scraps come to life! You all keep fingers and hearts busy and keep well 😘 Thank you for sharing.
I wish you lived near here too – but I will do my best to show you as I go along! Rose is looking forward to modelling the layers before they all go off to Mamie!
Such fine and delicate work! These garments are beautiful and I look forward to the next step.
Thank you very much! I am enjoying this project, and am happy to share the progress!
Beautiful garments. You always create such wonderful items.
We love the process, and are happy to see how my dream is becoming a reality! Thanks for your kind compliments!
…what a wonderful project. And with your attention to detail and amazing craftsmanship….I am in awe! ..again!!!
thanks for the blog link. Very interesting.
It was a delight to get a stack of scraps, and then to dream and plan…we like the way it looks so far!!!
I agree with all of the things others have been saying about these splendid clothing items. I am especially delighted by the pocket. I am so grateful that you share the magical Hitty world that flows from your fingers. Thank you!
Thanks very much – we started with the pocket – and aim to make our way to the outer layers one piece at a time! You are welcome – it is a delightful project to us, and we are glad to share the delight!
so happy you have joined the happy scrappers. Rose’s petticoat is a work of art, pity to cover it up.
Thank you for introducing Scrap Happiness to me through your blog! Rose’s petticoat will definitely be covered at the back, but don’t worry, the front will be on display!
Lovely! I look forward to seeing her in her 18th century outfit.
Thanks very much – we are looking forward to sewing the next heap of scraps…and showing you!
What a treat! Wonderful use of scraps and leftovers, and such dainty work. Must explore further…
We are glad you were amused – there is quite a lovely stack of such scraps and leftovers in my cupboards, it has been fun to think of delightful ways to use them up, to the benefit of my Hitty family!
