Quilt Snugging
The nights are suddenly cool – fall seems to have arrived! Henrietta was chilly…
.
.
…so I organised some squares of brown and red-themed 1860’s reproduction print fabric
.
.
Henrietta loved the colours…
.
.
…but it was not as comfortable as it could be…in fact Henrietta thought it rather resembled a square of cardboard sitting on the bed, though she was too polite to say so out loud.
.
.
Fortunately I have a solution for that! First you roll up a drying-up cloth…
.
.
…then pin the quilt onto the cylinder and steam all round. Let it cool and dry before unpinning and then…
.
.
…it drapes very nicely and is much more comfortable and snug!
.
.
Hmm…I have several quilts that need this! Thank you so much for the fix.
You are welcome! It can be done over a tea kettle spout too! Your Hittys will thank you (and be more comfy!).
You and the Hittys bring such beauty to our doll and human world. Thank you for this comfy suggestion.
Thank you…I think the beauty is there, though I sometimes need to Hittys to help me see it!
Thank you so much for this tip. Finished a small quilt and will try the steaming of it. I used a waxed quilting thread for the cross hatch threads -next time I will use a softer type cotton thread. Thanks for the challenge -it got me sewing again.
I am glad you enjoyed the quilting!! I hope the steaming helps and helps drape your little quilt. I do find the Hittys appreciate it when their quilts curve over and tuck in! A softer cotton thread would likely be less stiff, as would silk, though with coloured thread you have to be careful it isn’t fugitive in the steam or water!
Lovely!
Thanks! Hitty Henrietta sure thought it was an improvement!
What a wonderful solution…I have had that same cardboard look…Thank You so much for sharing this great tip.
We find it works very well! I hope it helps your Hittys feel more comfortable under their quilts!
so happy you knew the fix and Henrietta is happy. You have an incredible stash of fabrics, the quilt is a beautiful selection of small patterns.
I had a commission to make a slightly larger doll’s quilt for Ross bay Villa, and got a bagful of scraps from them…these are the scraps of the scraps…I still have some left, maybe for the next scraphappy day…
Oh, that’s better! Much cosier, and will keep the chill away beautifully.
Very cosy, and Henrietta is happy, which is the main thing! There is a big difference between a quilt to look at on a wall and a comfortable quilt on a bed!
Very true. Something that’s designed to hang flat and straight isn’t always cosy and drapey on a bed. I’m glad she’s got it sorted out.
such a clever solution to a vexing problem! Thank you for sharing.
You are welcome. We are all glad that the vexatious cardboard look has been forever banished from the Hitty cupboard!
