Straw Hats
I found a lot of scraps of hat straw, none of it long enough for even a tiny Hitty hat…
.
.
…but with judicious piecing, I eked out two plain little bonnets!
.
.
Willa loved the pink one…
.
.
…and I added a pink satin crown and a velvet ribbon, so it would look Jane Austen-ish.
.
.
Off she strolled to the park…
.
.
…where she communed with the daisies for a time.
.
.
Then a wonderful thing happened – a small person wanted to play with her!!! Apparently Willa loves butter…
.
.
…and resting in the grass…
.
.
…and sleeping in trees…
.
.
…but sleeping in grass is the very best of all!
.
.
Jane wanted a fancy hat, so I learned how to make ribbon roses!!

Ahhhh, creative, creative, creative…and oh such pretty hats you’ve made. Your photos and talent are a feast for the eyes today.
I absolutely agree – loved the beauty – and the humour, such liveliness. It really makes one’s day brighter. Thank you to the entire Hitty family for their preparations for Easter 2022!
We always enjoy a new spring hat! Jane is particularly pleased with hers!
Willa looks gorgeous. Love the beautiful dress and hat. Youngest human always adds love to these remarkable stories.
Willa does have a kind of delightful self-confidence! If she were a Jane Austen character, I think she’d be Emma.
great use of scraps, lovely bonnets. Jane looks a little top heavy but the ribbon flowers are delightful.
Jane likes her exuberant flowered hat! She says it is not heavy at all!
Ohhh my that’s awesome 😍
Thank you! We can’t help ourselves sometimes – we do have fun around here!
What a wonderful and creative use of scraps! With gorgeous results.
The multicoloured scraps of straw were kind of cheerful, but Willa also likes the ribbon-embroidered satin cover too…such fun to use things up!
so beautiful, I loved their straw hats, and photographs, Thank you, have a nice weekend, Love, nia
Thank you so much, Nia – we hope you have a good weekend too!
enchanting,,,every photo. and always magical when the young human has a hand in things. Love the hats and Willa’s gauzy frock. And jane with her version of a fascinator..delightful.
We have been having fun with our hattery, and the Hittys are always delighted with the results of my experimentation. Jane says new hats are fun, and is looking forward to showing it off next time she goes out!!
I do love a nice hat, and whilst Jane’s appeals to my peacock senses, I’d be far more likely to wear Willa’s simpler round bonnet. My own favourite is a ‘paper straw’ panama, so cool and comfy in this climate.
