Cooky
Last week three humans travelled by plane, boat and automobile…
.
.
…to a house near a sandy beach, where some little pieces of basswood sat waiting on the table.
.
.
After carving, whittling, chipping, gouging and snicking…
.
.
…we found some tiny dolls under the surface of the wood.
.
.
This little one spent a lot of time on a toy aluminium cooky sheet, which was purchased from the nearby antique store…
.
.
…so of course her name will be Cooky.
.
.
After encouraging words from dolly and human friends…
.
.
…and a few more snicks, sanding…
.
.
…more chipping away, and more sanding…
.
.
…some hole-drilling, more refining, more sanding, a little paint and a cool trick with elastic…
.
.
…finally Cooky and her little friends found their way out of the blanks…
.
.
…and into our hands (and hearts)!
.
.
Thank you so much to my human and dolly companions for the treasures beyond price: encouragement, friendship, fine meals, beach walks, cups of tea and and peace and quiet. More little dollies is a good thing!

There are no words for such a lovely time. It was magic.
It was! We are so lucky!
What a beautiful little boy (Cooky) came out out of this time of welcomed rest.
Thank you for saying she is beautiful! I thought of Cooky as a girl while I was carving, though I know little plump toddler bodies are pretty undistinguishable! The break was very welcome!
Oh my goodness, there it says it clearly enough in your narrative-“her”…so sorry Cooky…yes, you are a beautiful little gal. When I saw her finished photo, my mind immediately jumped to one of our own little grandsons!
I want those boots! They are an enchanting little trio, and congratulations on their safe arrival/emergence.
That little person was so determined to wear those boots that the feet were shaped to fit in them! We had such fun making them together (along with the usual moments of despair (Oh no, half the foot is gone…oh drat her hand has turned into a fish fin…how can I make her smile a bit more…). We agreed that they were the cutest trio ever!
Oh my goodness! She is utterly enchanting!
Thank you so much. Her little self was as tricky as the larger dolls, every little snick of the knife had potentially big consequences!
You’ve created an enchanting little doll person and I look forward to seeing her join in the Quimper Hitty adventures!
Thanks…she needs some clothes before she can get into too much !
Cooky has a wonderful, expressive face and her hands are amazing! Thanks so much for sharing a bit of the “emergence” process. So delightful that you and friends got to enjoy each other as you made it happen!
Thank you! I think that being with my human friends had a lot to do with the sweetness that comes out in my dolls…partly because of their skills and willingness to share with me, but also because of the general atmosphere of love and support.
OMG! Be still my heart!! Impossibly adorable!!♥♥♥
I am glad you see her that way, it is very gratifying when one of my dolls makes people happy!
Oh, little Cookie, you have stolen our hearts! We need a little child like you. How can any Hitty home be complete without a little child?
Much love,
Mary and Roberta Not-Quite-Hitty xx
Our Hitty home has been so enriched by our human and doll friends…we are so happy to share the love with our Quimper Hitty friends ❤
I love these littles!
We love them too – the three small dollies were a bit sorry to say goodbye to each other, but they hope to keep in touch with the help of their humans!
what a precious treasure she is…I am smitten!!
Awww thanks so much! All our friends are treasures! Little Cooky reminds me of fun and delight ❤
oh, those eyes! and I just want to give those little bare backsides a gentle pat. Min has a new friend.
We kept noticing the cute “fannies” as we carved! And the dark eyes look quite a bit like the eyes of my kids when they were toddlers. Such a treat to bring home this cute Cooky!
This is great art work. Thank you, Love, nia
Thank you nia – it is good to know you think well of little Cooky!
Oh my! I didn’t think anything could possibly be sweeter than her little hands… until I saw her face. Cooky is a real treasure.
She is going to be fun to have in the family – at her age I expect she might be making mud pies with her little hands, and get pudding on her face!
Brilliant! I love seeing the process/progress of your art.
Thank you – I like it too actually…this blog is a good journal for me!
