Scrap Happy Möbius Pinafore
Scrap
I used this cotton tea cloth for something – I can’t remember what – but here is a leftover scrap, with a pretty butterfly corner decoration, and nice lace edging…

Pattern
…so I decided to turn it into a Möbius Pinafore.

First I separated the lace from the edge of the cloth most of the way around…

cut out
…but left it intact at the bottom corner of what will be the pinafore…

…it looks like a lot of lace leftover, but we have made this pattern enough times that we know it takes about 69 cm/27 inches in total. Luckily there will be just enough!

Shoulder seams
First the shoulder seams are sewn…

Back stitch
…and then the unattached lace is folded onto the front surface of the pinafore and attached with a backstitch…

keep sewing
…you have to have faith and keep sewing even though it feels like the whole thing is turning itself into a knot…

The end (of the lace)
…there was just enough lace to go all the way around!

more backstitching
Then the lace is flopped over so the raw edge disappears onto the wrong side, and the edge of the cloth is topstitched (using a back stitch) all round to hold the layers down.

Keep stitching
It is easier to believe it will all turn out because this is the second time around!

Coriander is so pleased…

…she gets to wear the new pinafore out to the garden…

We really like the result! The first pinafore we made from these cloths (a few years ago) was snaffled up by another family’s deserving doll, and we always meant to make a second one – it makes up so nicely.
What a lovely way to use up your scrap. Coriander is very lucky!
She is lucky! We really like using up these pretty scraps – the Hittys are very small and the little scraps go a long way!

Thanks, dogsdolls, the human in this family loves to sew and the Hittys are always glad to be the recipients of our efforts! Luckily Jane and I are also quite adept at – almost fond of – laundry!!!
That’s a perfect use of that tray cloth. I have a full sized mobius apron I wear to deflect silver .
Oh! Does your apron have lots of tiny holes? My grandpa (farfar) had tiny holes all over his overalls from welding (he was a steelworker) my grandma did lots of darning and patching!.
Not yet; there aren’t so many sparks with my stuff as with welding, thank goodness! Mostly it’s the dust when sawing n filing and of course excess polishing compound!

you are a genius, how the lace just fit with just an inch to spare. Stitching in around the edges, turning it to the back and top stitching is a lovely way to finish. How is Coriander going to keep it clean climbing in the trees? Love the peony.
Gorgeous, she looks like an angel in the sunlight! My own möbius apron is much less delicate and attractive; it’s made of a large floral print curtain fabric whose primary colour is a sort of mustard yellow with pink and green flowers. It’s actually rather useful to protect from curry splashes!
That sounds like a perfect coloured apron to prevent curry splashes – Maybe I had better make one like it for Coriander as she quite likes curry!
