Weaving
Constance likes to help out with all the crafty projects in the house. Another tea towel warp is going on the loom! A friend wound the warp and chained it…now the loom has to get dressed!
The warp is tied to the back beam, and the warps spread through a raddle. Lease sticks go through the cross to keep the warps in order and make it easier to thread the heddles. Two people are needed to wind it onto the back beam – one person turns the beam crank and inserts the spacing sticks, the other person stands at the front and holds the warp under tension as it winds on. Constance admires the result!!

.
This is what it looks like at the front, after the warp is on the back beam, and before the raddle is removed. Constance likes the loom – there are lots of places to perch.
.
.
Getting the threads through the heddles is tedious, but not hard. We just have to be able to count to four!
.
.
Nevertheless, we double-check frequently. If you make a mistake it is all to do again! That would be very tedious, as there are 378 warps… maybe we’ll triple check.

!!! Yay weaving!
Yay! Colours! Counting! Creativity!!!
Can’t wait to see the finished result! The colors are gorgeous and so should the towel be.
Thanks! It will be a while till they are done, there is a bit more loom-dressing to do, and then there are six potential tea Towels in this warp. Each will take a couple of hours to weave, and three different weavers will take a turn.
This looks fun. I’m sure the Hittys are loving the opportunity to engage in a little help.
They help just by being there with their patient smiling faces, but Constance in particular enjoys rolling her sleeves up and helping.
What beautiful colours! Constance looks darling perched on the loom.
Thanks, my friend Caroline chose the colours – and they certainly are eye-catching. Constance should write a book – the perches of Constance – the things she has seen!.
Quimper Hittys are very educated as well as industrious….keeps life very interesting as well as colourful!
This is a household of people and dolls that like making stuff into other stuff – flour into cake, string into cloth, cloth into clothes, and electrons into stories!
I love your stories and the idea of electrons turning into stories! Looks like a lot of fun at your house. Oh and a book of Constance and what she as seen and been a part of would be lovely!!
Creativity is valued highly around here… If a Quimper Hitty book ever appears, they’ll certainly not keep quiet about it!
Wow! You are all very impressive people and woodens. I want to see it finished!
We’ll keep you posted!
This is going to be very nice. It might be hard to use such beautiful things as ‘mere’ tea towels though.
Little pieces of cloth are very versatile – some people use them for hand towels, little table mats, or antimacassars. I do like to see them being used, but I don’t usually give them to people who use them as floor cloths or pot holders.
How amazing! I’ve never seen anything like that before, let along being performed by the Hittys!
Lots of string tangles in this house, and Hittys are always ready to help!
