On the way to Finland
Constance is a great traveler – she takes up very little room, is not very heavy, undaunted by timetable hiccups and a pleasant companion. We stopped in Iceland for two days on the first leg of our journey…this year the weather was characterised by rain, wind, and rather cold temperatures. Fortunately we had planned a day-long “Golden Circle” excursion and were snug in the bus while the worst weather raged outside. Also fortunately, I had sewn a new warm traveling coat for Constance…
.
.
The coat was perfect, but Hitty acquired some additional cold-weather gear on this leg of the trip – a pair of handknit Icelandic wool Hitty mittens and some Icelandic leather slippers with knitted insoles from GAGA in Reykjavik.
.
The humans gradually acquired warm things too – a knitted shawl (from the bus station shop after standing around in the chilly morning waiting for the bus), a human scarf and pair of mittens (from the Gulfoss souvenir shop after being blown sideways by the glacial wind)…and a pair of thick socks for one of the humans (after a close encounter with Geysir). Despite the weather, we were all warmed by the friendly Icelanders and the woolens – Constance snuggled into a corner of my new shawl and admired the view from the front seat of the tour bus.

Next stop – Helsinki!
Last year Constance and a couple of her sisters went to Iceland – to see the posts about that trip Click Here.

Love, love, love all the geology! Constance is a wonderful travel companion.
And on to Finland, and whoever said there was not much there to see (geologically) in a post-glacial landscape was mistaken!
Welcome back, Constance and traveling human companions! It’s always a delight to hear of tales from a distant place in the world. Thank you for taking time to fill us in on your journey.
We love to remember our trips this way, the episodes are little pinpoints of memory.
oh lovely, lovely….I and my girls shall live vicariously thru your travels!!! Enjoying the thought of needing snuggly woolens since it is nearly 100 here!!
The rest of our trip was not so chilly. We did enjoy our roamings, but are glad to be home again…where it is a reasonable 23 degrees C.
Welcome back Constance. Love your warm coat and other woolens. Looking forward to all your new adventures..
We were very glad to have the warm clothing in Iceland, which lived up to its name this year!
Welcome to Finland!
