On the way home from Finland
Constance acquired several delightful mementos during our trip. On the very last day in Finland we nipped back in to the Helsinki market square… I bought a berry-collecting basket from the Hitty shoemaker, in memory of all the sweet and delicious berry experiences in Finland. Fortunately the volume of all the Hitty souvenirs put together was small and easily fit into her travelling trunk… Nevertheless, there was a bit of a problem at the very end…
.
.
Although it absolutely did not fit into any human or doll-sized travelling trunk, suitcase or carry-on bag, we found it entirely impossible to leave Finland without this little, Hitty-sized working loom…it travelled home in a paper bag…Constance dreams of weaving ryijy.

Ooh – what a LOVELY souvenir of your trip there. I’m sure Constance will enjoy her weaving experiences on it.
We were amazed to find the little loom, and more amazed to discover it was entirely operational! I am grateful to the travelling companion who listened to me dithering about its size and awkwardness for exactly ten seconds, and then gave the vendor some euros and told me the Hittys wouldn’t forgive me if I didn’t get it home somehow.
Lucky lucky Constance…wish my traveling loot was this size. Such lovely things…
We were good about finding little wee things, but just had to find a way to bring back the loom!
Kjerstin, I didn’t think you could find a better souvenir than the shoes, but I was wrong……..
Congratulations!
The shoes are delightful, we were pretty chuffed to find the loom though!
Constance’s souvenirs are very interesting, especially the little basket and shoes. That working loom is something my hittys would love to have. Constance is one lucky girl, but she deserves it all.
We love finding little Hitty-sized hand made things when we go on holiday… the woven birch bark shoes and berry basket were so perfect!
It will be interesting to see what Constance is inspired to make on the loom. If it is ryijy then I hope she wears her nice woven bark shoes while she does it.
Normally we wear weaving socks, so we can feel the pedals better…she might pose wearing the shoes though if she ever gets a ryijy made!
I am simply flabbergasted by that loom!! What a find…and how just perfect for YOU and Constance!!
I was gobsmacked when I saw it in the open air market at Savonlinna, it was so perfect! We are going to have such fun with it!
I’m officially jealous, Kjerstin! What a great loom! I love the berry box as well – looks hand carved. Great stuff!!! laura
The berry basket and shoes are woven birch bark, the oval box is a piece of birchbark with a wooden lid and base, and a design pricked into the surface of the bark – we love the little things we found, and still can’t believe we brought home a Loom!
All the treasures are wonderful, but the Hitty loom is beyond measure! Truly wonderful!
Isn’t it a marvellous thing!! Constance loves it!
And, so do I!!! ❤
