Cottonwood
A couple of Hittys went on a cottonwood fluff-collecting expedition…
…tis the season for flying fluff around here…
…They could barely feel the fluff it was so soft. It is also difficult to collect when snagged in the grass and rolling around on the paths, because the little seed hairs compress and clump. We made a little rake out of some twigs, and that helped…
…it is a bit easier to pick up when it is still attached to the stem, but then you have to get rid of the stick…
Constance and Tatty collected a big bag of cottonwood fluff…Constance thinks that since the fluff comes from the seed hairs like kapok and cotton, then it would make good stuffing for Hitty mattresses…

Ah, just what I was thinking! Stuffing for mattresses…what a great idea, QHs! Thanks for taking us on the stroll with you.
We are always happy to have you with us – I hope the mattress idea works! I think it would smell nice.
Let us know of Constance is correct about using the fluff for mattress stuffing!!!
We sure will! Right now they are a bit dismayed at the thought of taking all the little sticks and twigs out….
I tried to spin it but didn’t have any success with it. Stuffing their mattresses sounds like a much more sensible choice. May it bring the Hittys sweet dreams!
I think it will be a nice spring-scented mattress…I was wondering if it would spin at all, but the staples seemed very short.
such clever and industrious girls. Fun photos!
Thank you – it was really nice early in the morning before the traffic started – all we could hear was bird-songs in the cottonwood woods!
