Bony-Eared Assfish
Gráinne enjoyed the new pocket gallery at the Royal BC Museum. It has a display of interesting fishes found in British Columbia, both real ones, and life-sized models. She liked the red-coloured Blacktail snailfish (#5), the giant-toothed Shiny Loosejaw (#6) and the Helmet Jellyfish …
…she thought the “ears” on the Flapjack Devilfish were kind of cute.
The star of the show is the rare fish in the jar on the right of this picture…
…the Bony-Eared Assfish has been getting a lot of press lately…Click Here for more information about this strange being from the depths of Davy Jones’s locker.
Some fish have such ferocious-looking teeth, it makes Gráinne feel glad that Pirates spend most of their time on and near the sea, and not in it.
That was a day well spent Gráinne…learning about those very different fishes. Best of all, we get to learn too! Thank you for sharing!
The Hittys all love going to work with me! Gráinne was glad it was her turn yesterday!
Fish got ears? (Thank you, Gráinne! The seven seas are full of wonders!)
The Devilfish doesn’t really have ears, it is a kind of octopus, and it has little fins that look like ears…the Bony-Eared Assfish though…
All I can say is, will wonders never cease? Gráinne certainly brings up interesting topics.
I am pretty sure that wonders will never cease!
of course Grainne would be interested in denizens of the deep! Just happy that she was able to view them in the dry comfort of the museum. Too funny about the special fish and its “ridiculous” name!!
Gráinne appreciates the work of the scientists who study and learn about these interesting beings…she really does wonder about the names of some of them though!
What strange names some fish get given! A very interesting visit and the last photo is great. Very poignant
No clear blue skies here at the moment just grey and dull, but that doesn’t prevent Gráinne from visiting the beach and contemplating weird fish names!
