Marseille
We are very happy to be visiting a relative who lives near the city of Marseilles. One day we went into the city, where Constance, Tansy and Aurelia explored the very narrow and twisty streets in the Endoume neighbourhood.
.
.
Streets lead to footpaths, which lead to rocks which lead down to the water… and then back up again.
.
.
The girls found steps going up…
.
.
…to a good place to view the water.
.
.
In the distance they could see the Castle d’If, where the Count of Monte Cristo was imprisoned!
.
.
A little further along, they found the Cove of Counterfeit Money…I wonder what went on here in the past? It all seemed very well-behaved when we were there!
.
.
Up the hill again, we visited the Basillica of Notre Dame de la Garde (finished 1864), where people give thanks for survivors of accidents at sea…long strings of model boats hang from the ceiling!
.
.
Down at the bottom of the hill again, the much older Abbey of St Victor (the oldest part is from the 5th century) was much less ornate, but also cool and peaceful without the throngs of tourists.
.
.
The girls sat in some niches in the crypt.
.
.
Marseilles is beautiful!

It is so much fun to share your Hitty adventures.Thank you for taking the time to takes the photos and post them. They really bring a lot of refreshing joy along with them.
We are having such a nice trip, it is delightful to see the sights and share the adventures!
My, my…too bad Gráinne didn’t come along…seems to me she could have felt right at home in a couple of places!!!! But the three traveling sure look like they are having a great time! Thank you indeed for sharing all the adventures! Keep enjoying XOXO
Yes, I think you could be right about Gráinne, she would feel right at home in counterfeit money-cove, and at the Château d’If. She probably has studied the map of all the narrow alleys, rues and impasses and knows the quick ways to escape…we should have brought her just to prevent us from getting lost!
Just been catching up with your posts, what a lovely time they are having and such gorgeous photographs.
They are having such fun, a really great holiday, visiting interesting places and delightful relatives, some sightseeing, and some shopping. Luckily they are very small and their purchases don’t take up too much space in my suitcase!
These photos are absolutely beautiful. The city, the churches…even the boulders look so clean…like they have been power washed. Thank You for this wonderful travel log.
In fact a little earlier there was a wild thunderstorm with lots of rain, so I think the boulders actually were power-washed!
