A Tiny Blue Coat

Pieces

Vanilla is getting a new coat…

Stitches

…made of slithery stretchy blue velvety fabric.

Cover

This pattern book arrived in the Hitty cupboard recently, and though we don’t often use pattern books this one has some truly adorable patterns (just as it says on the cover)…

Coat

The patterns come in three sizes, and the smallest one, though meant for an eight-inch doll, seem to work well for Hitty – with minor adjustments.

pretty

…adorable is right!!

Note: we will not be using slithery stretchy fabric again any time soon, no matter how cute it turns out!

  1. that coat is adorable and that book looks very intriguing…I think I will try to locate it. As for that slithery lovely fabric….I am in awe that you could create such a cute coat from it. Your abilities with needle and thread are awe inspriring!!

    • It was fun to try and make up the pattern, I will definitely make it again, though probably without slithery fabric! I like the little book, it is pretty to look at, even if I don’t make any more of the patterns, though I think I will!

  2. I too am intrigued by this little book and the beauty that has come from it via your steady, nimble fingers and slithery, stretchy material. Needless to say, “adorable” is a most appropriate word for Vanilla in that somewhat frothy, lovely, and soothing colored coat.

    • Thanks! I think the book has some lovely little patterns, and I was pretty happy to receive it from my favourite photographer…also happy to have completed the coats that it looks approximately right…Vanilla is pleased too!

  3. Julie has tried to sew with velvet and gave up. The coat you made Vanilla is so sweet. Love the soft color and fabric.

    • I had a few moments if frustration too – velvet is definitely a tricky fabric, it never stays where you put it! Hand sewing is the only way I could get it to behave, and it still seemed to have a mind of its own! I did love the colour too, but I don’t have plans to use any more of it any time soon! There must be some trick, but I don’t know what it is!
