A Scrap Happy Trip Around the World – January 2021
A kind relative cleared out a chest of drawers and sent two suitcases of fabric my way, just in time for the first ScrapHappy Day of 2021..
.
.
Among the stacks of large pieces was a small zip-lock bag with 2 1/2 inch strips of fabric that had been unpicked from something – quarter inch fold lines and stitch holes still visible at the edges of the strips.
.
.
We pressed them all flat…
.
.
…and cut them into one-and-a-half-inch squares…
.
.
…and stitched them into strips…
.
.
Which were pressed again…
.
.
…and the strips sewn together (closely supervised by the cat).
.
.
We made two mini Trip-around-the-World quilt tops – one in browns and tans…
.
.
…and another in reds and blues. We’ll be backing, binding, and quilting them next.
Trip Around the World quilts are one way to travel places this year, and if you click on some of the links below, it will take you to other people’s scrappy studios all around the world!

The red and blue one is my favourite; I like how you have positioned the fabrics to create a secondary pattern in the blues.
I like that one best too! It was fun to find that bag filled with little pieces – I haven’t had the nerve to cut into any of the big ones yet!
What a wonderful gift to receive, and how pretty the blocks are that you made from the strips!
Thank you very much, Susan. We are used to working with smaller pieces, and since the wide strips had already been taken apart, we felt it was fair game to reduce them further!
A fabulous gift, and beautiful quilts. This is why we keep scraps.
Thanks! I love scraps!! We had fun examining the contents of the suitcases, and sewing yet another Hitty Quilt…a good project on a winter afternoon.
The fabric found it’s way to a woman who knows how to bring creativity and beauty to the world. Thank you.
We love the “Trip around the World” pattern – so simple but fetching! Thank you for your kindness and encouragement.
You and your delightful assistant have produced another little beauty. I’m sure your kind relative knew the best place for her excess fabric pieces to end up.
Constance and I will do the best we can to use the fabrics, or find good homes for them…The trip around the world seemed like a good little beginning 🙂
oh, WOW! wonderful collection of colours and prints. The little quilt tops are perfect for Hitties and so pretty.
Thanks! We were glad to help redistribute the fabrics – some definitely will find their way into the Hitty cupboard in various guises!
Beautiful quilts 😍
Thank you! Small can be beautiful!
Oh what a big cat!
Looks are deceiving – Siyah is not a very big cat, Constance is very small!
your craftsmanship always just floors me! So precise!!! So lovely!!! Very impressive!!
Thank you very much! We are always glad when the corners match up, but the Hittys assure me that all their quilts are comfy-cosy, whether they are precise or imprecisely pieced!
I love the Scrap Happy posts and have wondered if I could join in- so I asked Kate and she said that my upcycled scrap wood Spoon Dolls are just fine to be part of the fun. Yay! She has invited me to join in, so I look forward to doing that! Thank you so much for introducing us all to the neat things that you are doing for Scrap Happy as well as all the other bloggers around the world! 🙂
That’s exciting – I will see you February 15 th, if not before!
Thank you again for all your inspiration and delight!
Utterly charming.
Oh, I do like to make mini quilts. I have a stack of fat quarters that would be just perfect for this…. hmm… I’m still hooked by your dolly! So beautiful!
I love to make Mini Quilts too – I think they are little gems…and the dolls have enough quilts to play at “Princess and the Pea”!
Is that your store? Do you make the dollies to sell?
