Hari Kuyo 2026
Today is Hari Kuyo, a day of celebration for Japanese people who work with Textiles …
.
.
…it’s time to retire the faithful bent and broken needles and pins that we used in our textile projects.
.
.
After a year of pinning and sewing into multiple layers of fabric, Vanilla gently pushes the tired pins into soft tofu…
.
.
…we give thanks for the faithful service they have provided over the last year…
.
.
…resulting in many human and Hitty items of clothing and household textiles…
.
.
Thank you!!

what a lovely smile in her face. Thank you, Love, nia
Thank you nia, She is a calm and happy Hitty.
I have quite a few pins and needles which should be retired. How nice to have a celebration of their usefulness.
Some needles and pins just gravitate to my hands when I reach for the pincushion!
Is this a new Hitty? I love how you share all these international customs . Thank you
Vanilla was made in spring 2020 – remember back then? Plague times!!! She has been out and about a few times…
wonderful job getting Vanilla dressed in her kimono and obi and even a nagajuban (under kimono).
One of my Japanese friends sent me some very complete instructions which I try to follow – it isn’t easy as you know!
what a charming holiday. Vanilla has such a sweet expression and of course her kimono is perfection!
Vanilla is happy that the kimono fits her pretty well, she is very happy to help us celebrate all the textile projects that we’ve worked on this year, and the tools that helped up complete them!!
What a beautiful doll and lovely images to celebrate this Japanese day of celebration 🙂
Thanks very much – we enjoy celebrations! This one is always a fun one, the Hittys like putting on their kimono!
