Around the radiant fireplace

Announced by all the trumpets of the sky,

Arrives the snow, and, driving o’er the fields,

Seems nowhere to alight: the whited air

Hides hills and woods, the river, and the heaven,

And veils the farm-house at the garden’s end.

The sled and traveler stopped, the courier’s feet

Delayed, all friends shut out, the housemates sit

Around the radiant fireplace, enclosed

In a tumultuous privacy of storm…

Warm in December

Ross Bay Christmas

Last weekend, Constance went to a Christmas Party for Ross Bay Villa Society members, who contribute to this house’s restoration. The goal is to have it look as it did during the 1860’s, and to educate people about family life in Victoria at that time.

It was a wet and windy afternoon – but the house was decorated most cheerfully with evergreen and holly boughs.
