Icelandic Jólasveinar 3
Min wonders whether the Jólasveinar are having trouble finding Victoria because they are using out of date maps. She has been to the Royal BC Museum’s exhibition on old maps – Envisioning the World – The first Printed Maps 1472 – 1700. Sure enough, Iceland is on the maps, even those from the 1500’s, but Victoria is not! In fact Vancouver Island did not appear on world maps until after cartographer Manuel Quimper passed through this area in the 1790’s!
.
Although Min is happy that no potatoes have appeared in her shoes, she is still hoping for a little present, and leaves the shoes out again just in case. You never know, the Jólasveinar might find their way to Victoria even with an old map! She is unable to stay awake all night so she doesn’t know if anyone visited during the night.

The third Yule Lad to come is Stúfur, also called Stubby or Itty Bitty..he is small and cheerful and arrives on December 14th! His feet are cold.

Oh my! Can the bear and Min speak to each other – will he tell her tales when she wakes up?
Stúfur’s feet look awfully cold. I hope he has shoes for the winter weather.
Min may be short a pair of shoes when she wakes up, but it looks like Stúfur might need them more than she does…He likes the look of these painted clogs, even though they are Swedish…
Min is so patient….
She knows it is a bit of a long shot.
Oh dear, I hope Min has some shoes when she wakes up, it looks like a very cold pair of feet may be taking a fancy to them!
The Jólasveinar might need them more than Min does – she can at least borrow some!
Thank goodness for friends and family! No one wants to reside in chilly and damp Victoria without any shoes! LOVE this post, my friends!!
Even Toads get chilly feet, or is it especially toads?
These particular pair of Toads pine for the fjords of Costa Rica frequently! I figure we could let our flippers roam free in a country where the temperatures never deviate. Alas, that is a dream for another day….
