October Lanterns

Physalis alkekengi

Opal and Agathe have been busy these last few days of October…

Snip

…they have been snipping a tiny hole round the stem of  “Japanese Lanterns”, and pulling out the berry…

Glow

…and then they popped a battery tea-light into the holes!

(thanks to Notes from Bjorkasa for this idea)

  1. We love ‘Chinese Lanterns’, which is the name we know them by. We’ve tried to grow them but the neighbourhood rabbits love them even more and eat them down to the ground! Perhaps some day, we will outwit them and be able to make lovely little autumn lanterns, too 🙂

  2. That is just about the most clever thing I have ever seen!! You are brilliant!! Agathe and Opal are so lucky to have YOU as their human!!
