Wassail the Trees!
Floradora made a big pot of tea…
.
.
…and Gilly helped pour it into the trunks of the fruit trees in our back garden.
.
.
They climbed up the trees…
.
.
…and hung up toast…
.
.
…and more toast…
.
.
…until all the trees were festooned with toast!

Wake Up trees – and Happy New Year! Be blessed, and bless us!
Happy New Year from me and the Hittys to all of you, my Hitty friends!

How beautiful and nice. Thank you dear Hitty Lady, Love, nia
Thank you so much nia. We wonder if it all helps, but I think it might. Positive energy must be a good contribution to the universe!
You have reminded me that friends and I used to wassail our fruit trees each year then have a meal together. Then during covid lockdowns we stopped (her 90 year old Dad lived with them and was shielding) and we never started again. Maybe next year I will suggest it.
I love Wassailing the trees! A meal together sounds like a good way to round off the event. I was just glad the weather was reasonable when we went out to take the photos!
I really do appreciate how you bring the natural world into your lives, honoring their part in our daily lives. Appreciation goes a long way, doesn’t it?
Thank you – I like the reminders of how food gets from earth to table, and our part in making that happen, especially if we produce the food, but even if only appreciating it!
Awesome! We gave our trees large buckets of water because its been so dry but we never thought of tea and toast 🙂
That is pretty awesome a tradition!
I am sure your trees appreciate the buckets of water! The more traditional libation is toast and ale, but we didn’t have any beer lying around this year, so we thought we’d try tea…we’ll find out I guess, if the trees appreciate it!
I expect the tea was appreciated – before the rain arrived and no doubt the birds and squirrels will enjoy the toast. Blessings for the New year.
I don”t know which animal appreciates the toast, but there is seldom any left after a day or two – I have never caught them in the act!
i only learned of this tradition in your past posts. My red Mullberry trees have been very neglected! I did enjoy this outing of your sweet girls and their much loved trees
I guess if your trees are still in the grip of a deep freeze, they won’t want to wake up quite yet! Maybe you could try it a little closer to spring!
