Tansy has been to Haida Gwaii, three times this year – she’s been involved in a lot of interesting work and seen remote and beautiful parts of British Columbia.
Tansy’s recent stint on Haida Gwaii, involved a bit of bushwhacking, not just shoreline activities…Tansy and her companions were happy to see the forest growing back in some areas where the deer population has been reduced. Deer were extirpated 12,000 years ago by the effects of climate change, but were re-introduced in the 1920’s. The ecosystem was then destabilised by the presence of deer with no natural predators, eating all the little plants. Now rebalancing attempts are being made.
Min, Opal and Agathe were all excited about the Supermoon Eclipse this weekend. For once it is not raining! After dinner they trotted down to the eastward-facing headland, and set up their telescope….
Tansy has just spent a summer among archaeologists. During the recent stint on Haida Gwaii, Tansy and her companions clambered around on the foreshore looking for evidence of use by ancient peoples! When the crew stopped for lunch, human gum boots came off but Tansy continued looking for interesting things on the beach.
Tansy and her photographer have made it safely back to the Hitty Cupboard!! Tansy is happy to be back in civvy clothes, but also happy to recount her experiences to her enthralled Hitty sisters!
