Bounty from our friend Madge

Bounty from our friend Madge

In the mailbox today, Constance found a lovely lumpy squishy parcel, and found inside a beautiful New Zealand-inspired Quilt, and a wee puzzle the size of a matchbox… Opal and Agathe are the ones that would most appreciate these gifts, being carved from swamp Kauri wood, so Constance invited them to share in the bounty!

Dratted Deer

Deer Drats

Rain at last!  Hattie had promised to bring Dulcie Berry-picking so they donned their raincoats and ventured outside.  Oh drat!  The plants at the top of the planter were cropped short during the night by ravening deer…

Pocket-riding

Agathe has been greatly enjoying her muumuu this summer and wanted to spread the happiness around.  The pattern-maker, Susie Graber, kindly agreed that I could share the process I used to make up the muumuu.  I have used her pattern and instructions (available through the Hittygirls pattern files).  I have adapted the technique slightly to make it fit my dolls!

Linen Cloth

Ross Bay Villa Lawn Party

1865 Striped Dress

1865 Striped Dress

Last weekend, Constance and her human attended the great lawn party of Ross Bay Villa.  This took place at a lovely little Historic house, restored and operated by an incredible group of volunteers, including this elegant lady who is one of the most knowledgeable and friendly people we have ever come across.  For the last Several months, the Quimper Hitty human has been helping out with the costuming by sewing by hand hundreds of buttons and buttonholes, and hooks-and-eyes onto period-authentic reproduction 1865 clothing.  Constance marvelled at the number and variety of shapes and sizes of fastenings, from this artificial silk-and-velvet outfit, to gentlemen’s jackets and waistcoats, and multiple layers of under things!  What a production!!! Everyone who dressed up on behalf of the Villa was authentically dressed from the skin out, including (for the women) chemise, corset. drawers, cage crinoline and petticoats as well as stockings, boots and outer dress fabrics. Everyone looked fantastic!
