Today was the last Live in HD transmission from the Metropolitan Opera this season. La Cenerentola, or “Cinderella” by Giacomo Rossini was first performed 197 years ago!  In his story there is a wicked stepfather instead of stepmother, and a philosopher instead of a Fairy Godmother.

Poor neglected Cinderella, in suitably shredded garments, laments her fate, and longs to go to the ball.

Luckily for us,  Victoria is a smallish city that loves opera…three times a year we are able to go to live productions right here in our own town!  The final production of the 2013/2014 Pacific Opera Victoria season, was the Marriage of Figaro which we were lucky enough to see at the Sunday matinée

Two Hundred Years

Two Hundred Years  ago today (or possibly some time in in July) Jane Austen’s Mansfield Park was published…It was definitely some time in 1814, but the dates are unclear to me!  Wikipedia says both on the same page, so obviously need to dig deeper.  In any case, Rose is pleased to have an excuse to wear one of the Quimper Hittys’ Regency Outfits.  Her dress was made by one Hitty friend, and the pretty crochet bonnet, and matching reticule by another.

The Quimper Hitty human went on a sewing jag this morning, with the intention of making a new Hitty gown out of two items from the Box of Treasure…a Swiss cotton Hanky with machine-embroidered pink carnations, and a pretty pale pink linen Hanky with scalloped edging.
