Tansy visits the Manitoba Museum
Tansy was excited to visit the Manitoba Museum with her host, and stayed late into the night. First she was introduced to the Bison who greet everyone at the museum. Fun fact: the scientific name for plains bison is Bison bison bison.
Then Tansy went to one of the most popular exhibits – The NONSUCH! Back in 1668, two Frenchmen asked Prince Rupert for the money and resources to go to the new world for business ventures, and the Nonsuch was one of two boats to go (another one turned back when damaged). The journey took four months, and was the first voyage for what would eventually become the Hudson’s Bay Company.
This replica boat was built in England to celebrate the tricentennial of the Hudson’s Bay Company. The Nonsuch is considered one of the finest replicas in the world, and sailed 14,000 kilometres of salt and fresh water before being shipped across Canada on a flatbed truck to Winnipeg. It was placed in a parking lot adjacent to the museum, and the exhibit was built around it!

Caribou
After midnight a flashlight tour began. Tansy and her host decided to check and see if any of the Bison or Caribou has come to life. No such luck, but maybe next time, because they are actually planning on staying the entire night!

The picture of Tansy near the Nonsuch is amazing and loved reading the history associated with the museum. Thanks Tansy and hope you get to meet a real Caribou someday…….
The Quimper Hittys love going to Museums, and the Nonsuch has such a great story!
The scientific name of Bison bison bison intrigued me, as I once wanted to be a taxonomist. Nevertheless, Tansy, the Quimper Hitty leads us on another educational journey. Thank you!
Tansy is learning lots of interesting things on this trip – she has a great host, who is sending us regular reports!
Tansy is just amazing!! We love hearing of her adventures and expeditions. ALso love her pretty outfit! Just
the thing for museum exploring. I am quite happy that the Bison and Caribou did NOT come to life whilst
little Tansy was there. Looking forward to more news of her overnight stay.
The rest of the Quimper Hittys (and their human) are certainly having a thrilling time reading about Tansy’s adventures, and imagining the “might have beens”!
Tansy looks to be in danger of a trampling by bison. I hope she avoided them….
She was also anxious to avoid them. They swerved at the last minute, luckily – her small boots would not have availed her otherwise!
