Tansy visits the Manitoba Museum
Bison bison
Tansy was excited to visit the Manitoba Museum with her host, and stayed late into the night. First she was introduced to the Bison who greet everyone at the museum. Fun fact: the scientific name for plains bison is Bison bison bison.
The Nonsuch
Then Tansy went to one of the most popular exhibits – The NONSUCH! Back in 1668, two Frenchmen asked Prince Rupert for the money and resources to go to the new world for business ventures, and the Nonsuch was one of two boats to go (another one turned back when damaged). The journey took four months, and was the first voyage for what would eventually become the Hudson’s Bay Company.
This replica boat was built in England to celebrate the tricentennial of the Hudson’s Bay Company. The Nonsuch is considered one of the finest replicas in the world, and sailed 14,000 kilometres of salt and fresh water before being shipped across Canada on a flatbed truck to Winnipeg. It was placed in a parking lot adjacent to the museum, and the exhibit was built around it!

Caribou
After midnight a flashlight tour began. Tansy and her host decided to check and see if any of the Bison or Caribou has come to life. No such luck, but maybe next time, because they are actually planning on staying the entire night!

The scientific name of Bison bison bison intrigued me, as I once wanted to be a taxonomist. Nevertheless, Tansy, the Quimper Hitty leads us on another educational journey. Thank you!

Tansy looks to be in danger of a trampling by bison. I hope she avoided them….
She was also anxious to avoid them. They swerved at the last minute, luckily – her small boots would not have availed her otherwise!
