Garden Bed
Tansy finished the digging part of her Backyard Archaeology project, and was busy examining, washing and recording her finds, so Perdita and Floradora borrowed her shiny shovel…
.
.
…and went off to the former dig site.
.
.
They climbed up the ladder (made of leftover fence lattice)…
.
.
…and began digging their own kind of holes!
.
.
They planted a xanthic zucchini…
.
.
…a pattypan squash (same family as the zucchini)…
.
.
…and two Gooseberry bushes!
.
.
Then continued with a clump of Good King Henry (the original plant started by my grandmother!)…
.
.
…and finished off with two Mouse melon plants!
.
.
How satisfying to see so many plants all tucked into their new garden bed!
.
.
Connecting with dirt yields much fruit in numerous vital ways. Good going ladies in your pretty aprons!
We are going out to check the little plants several times a day! Perdita and Floradora say that a good gardening apron makes all the difference!
What a productive day!
It was productive!!! The Girls are thrilled with their digs…and have high hopes for the harvest!
This is so endearing. Each photo is precious. The girls look darling and having an offshoot of your grandmother’s plant is wonderful. Priceless!
Thanks! We were so thrilled to have the Good King Henry, with memories of my grandmother and her garden in the mountains…so glad it survived the winter in its pot, and it looks happy so far in its splendid new garden bed! Thanks to the favourite photographer, and little wooden helpers for making it happen!
Such a variety…will be interested to see how the mouse melons do! The photos always look so cute! And the gardners are pretty sweet. Hope the garden flourishes!!
We hope for a goodly crop of mouse melons, and pattypans and gooseberries! We will certainly keep everyone apprised of the progress…
