Ten years ago, Hitty Constance and I went on a pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostella, we planned to walk the 800 km on the Camino Frances route starting in St Jean-Pied-de-Port. This week I am revisiting some of the pictures I took on that trip – it took place a year or so before I started regular Quimper Hitty Storytelling.
I was outfitted with 21st century equipment (down sleeping bag, light weight backpack, easily washed clothing etc.), but I dressed Constance as a Meidieval Pilgrim, like the ones who walked the Camino in the 12th or 13th century. I hope you enjoy this little adventure into our shared memories.
In our recent “Waste Not Waistcoat quilt” Constance was glad to have this tangle of silk thrums to hand, from which she pulled single coloured threads to use in embroidering the seams.
The block twins have reasons to be excited…an ancient visitor is in the celestial neighbourhood! They are camping out in the back yard in hopes of saying a little hello!
Although Tansy’s annual trip to Haida Gwaii as assistant archaeologist was cancelled this year, she and her favourite photographer (and Archaeologist) have been moving dirt in the back yard.
A few years ago I bought a waistcoat at a charity shop, made of burgundy velvet, with horizontal bands of embroidered ribbon sewn on. It never was for me to wear – I just loved the colours! For June ScrapHappy Day, I decided to assemble the scraps from a previous project to make a doll quilt.
