A few months ago, a Hitty friend found two sweet little applique and embroidered linen cloths circa 1930 in a thrift store in Nova Scotia. They appeared without warning in the Quimper Hitty’s mailbox and then languished for a while.
Thanks to the numerous suggestions by people here on the blog, and out in the Quimper Hitty Human’s real life, Carrot Soup was elected Christmas Angel this year! This is especially noteworthy as up to now we have had a Star at the top of our tree, not an angel. Carrot Soup is excited by the honour! Her little dress will do, but Christmas Rose and Gráinne decided to help her assemble some wings.
We are having so much rain and wind outside that it is hard to take pictures outdoors! Carrot Soup came to work with me again and decided to explore the Museum’s Old Town. This is a bit like being outside inside – the decorations make it is look festive at the moment, and Father Christmas is said to spend time up here, though we didn’t see him…
About 40 years ago the Quimper Hitty Human’s mother gave her a set of Swedish tart tins, and a recipe for Sandbakelse, so the tradition of almond tarts at Christmas time could continue. Luckily, Hattie likes to help with baking, and luckily, one of our friends also likes to help. We double the recipe and one of the humans makes the dough and the other makes the filling…
Trying to get some of our linen weavings ready to give away for gifts, the red-starred linen was cut in half lengthwise and the cut sides hemmed. Then I ravelled a few cm into a fringe. Luckily for me, nautical Gráinne is an expert at knots, because she had to tie 80+knots in bundles of four warp ends.
Swedish and Finnish ancestry makes the Quimper Hitty human especially happy on the 13th of December. On this day, the oldest girl in a Swedish house would prepare a special breakfast, and wearing a crown of candles she would waken the household with fresh saffron buns while singing the Lucia song.
