The Textile Projects are continuing to amuse us – a winter shawl is coming along… I am doing a knit-along mystery pattern from Isolde on Ravelry – you get an option of two patterns once a week, so the result at the end depends on which of the patterns you choose. I am going for the simplest patterns, and am very grateful that I have help from the genius knitting daughter of the family.  Since the Hittys noticed that it is not going to be a Hitty shawl they have been a bit disgruntled, but Rose helpfully hands me the stitch markers (with only a tiny  humph).

Constance Plays Olympia

Constance really enjoyed going to the MET’s Live in HD presentation of  the Tales of Hoffman by Offenbach.  The story is a bizzare fictional account of the several great (but unsuccessful) love affairs of the real poet E. T. A.Hoffman who died in 1822.  One of his Operatic inamoratas was a mechanical doll called Olympia.  Constance approves in principle, after all she knows several people who feel very fond of dolls, even without wearing magic glasses!  She also feels that to be beloved by a cutie like Vittorio Grigolo would be no hardship.
