A little Gallery
A former student made a little Art Gallery for the Hittys…
…which recently came home to live in the Hitty cupboard.
.
.
The inaugural display in the gallery’s new location is an exhibit of tiny carvings…Viola is interested in the little moose made of walrus Ivory – moose are rare and walruses unheard of in the Ozarks!
.
.
Walrus Ivory has a central crystalline structure, called secondary dentine. It is surrounded by solid primary dentine. Both are visible in the antlers of this little moose.
.
.
The lovely carved owl looks like it might fly off. It is made of Caribou antler.
.
.
Arianell thinks the wooden grebe is so cute!
.
.
Puffins are one of our favourite birds.
.
.
….we like the way they are perched on a cliff.
.
.
This lovely walrus ivory swan is sitting on a nest of antler…
.
.
…there are eggs in the nest!
.
.
Amazing talented artists made these tiny things! Alaskan artist Leonard Savage made the Swan and nest, the Puffins and the Moose. The wood Grebe is marked (c) Anni Italy. Maureen Morris made the Owl.

Wonderful gallery with beautiful art. Do you teach? If so, what grade? I work in a university and interact with students all day, every day. 🙂
I recently retired from work at a Museum, where we occasionally entertained co-op students, and interns.
What a lovely gift for the Quimper Hittys. Such beautiful art work. The owl is gorgeous. My favorite bird is the Atlantic puffin, so I love the tiny puffins. Just amazing. Looks like Hitty Viola is right at home!

The Art Gallery was marvelous and unexpected! All the little carvings were acquired by my mother when she lived in the Yukon Territory…Hitty Viola likes it here 🙂
The display of creativity does my soul good. The world is full of beautiful items and creativity….thank you for highlighting some special items that have come your way.
It is pretty wonderful to see what people can do with talent, tools and opportunity! I feel lucky to have inherited these carvings, and very happy to share them.
wonderful, unique pieces of tiny art. Love how you’ve displayed them on the thread spools so we get a sense of the size. They have found the perfect home.
I have many thread spools – they have many uses! I love these pieces too, their tiny details amaze me!
Love the Art Galleriy
Thank you – so do I!
How marvelous …those miniatures are just wonderful. The new girl must have been amazed! I am!
Viola paid close attention to the Walrus ivory moose! She never thought she’d live in a household where walrus and moose are commonly discussed. The art gallery was a good way to introduce her to these animals…perhaps she will enjoy walrus-watching with Constance next summer?!
What a super art gallery, and such wonderful carvings and sculptures to look at and admire. Amazing work. What a lovely thing to have.
We are happy there is an increased potential for art appreciation among the denizens of the Hitty Cupboard!
These two little hittys are very lovely. Their faces are a marvel!
Aren’t they sweet? I am going to enjoy having both of them in the Quimper Hitty family!
