July Garden Morning

Peaseblossom

Peaseblossoms!!!

.

.

peapod!

And peas!

.

.

Sunflowers

The sunflowers are 30 cm tall!

.

.

Carrots and leeks

Carrots and leeks are thriving…

.

.

Leeks

Some of the leeks are big enough to eat! And some carrots have been eaten!

.

.

Lettuce

Perdita could get lost in the neverending lettuce…it has been an excellent year for salad!

.

.

Surprise!

…and look!!

.

.

Gooseberries!

We have some gooseberries after all! The cold and windy spring meant that only three of the Gooseberry flowers were pollinated. But last year we only got one, so this is an improvement!

.

.

Beautiful

Because of watering restrictions, we can only use the sprinkler at certain times on Sundays and Wednesdays – the flowers love Sunday mornings!

  1. the garden looks lovely and what a blessing the deer can’t get in. No matter how many fences I build the deer carefully ate all the pea pods – just the pods! And the tops/flowers off the sunflowers, hosta, columbines, lobellia and the baby ginko tree. So far they have left the lettuce.

    • Oh, DEER! It must be so disappointing and aggravating, and so sad about the ginkgo tree. We are very lucky, and though the fences make it feel more exclusive than formerly, at least they are excluding the deer!

    • Aw, Perdita is blushing! We are grateful for her help and her perspective…She is the one who called our attention to the three gooseberries! She loves the garden and spending time doing something she loves makes her feel lovely!

    • The morning light through the sprinkler droplets was otherworldly this morning – we did our best to capture some of the essence! Perdita is in her element – all those greens make her wood happy!

    • We humans miss them too, but alas, the Hittys are the only ones that will get a gooseberry tart this year (again!). Maybe next year – the refrain of a hopeful gardener…
