A couple of years ago I made Constance a Jane Austen Era outfit, and wearing it, she a had a delightful Regency Afternoon Tea with Patience and Zipporah (Click herefor a link to that post). To complete Constance’s outfit I made a cloth-covered straw bonnet – unfortunately, while the bonnet looked great, it didn’t fit her.
I have been promising her a new bonnet ever since, and the straw hat disassembly project is the perfect opportunity to make good on that promise. Below you will see the I made way her new bonnet, with illustrations of the process. You might notice that I give no measurements – this is because Hitty heads vary greatly in size, and if you want to try this you will need to use your own intended Hitty recipient as a model!
Gráinne enjoyed the new pocket gallery at the Royal BC Museum. It has a display of interesting fishes found in British Columbia, both real ones, and life-sized models. She liked the red-coloured Blacktail snailfish (#5), the giant-toothed Shiny Loosejaw (#6) and the Helmet Jellyfish …
Constance and I attended the first of the 2016 Live in HD opera presentations from the MET. The Opera was Bizet’s Les pêcheurs de perles, most famous nowadays for its tenor/baritone duet swearing eternal friendship. The last time the MET put on the Pearl Fishers was 100 years ago, but of course other opera houses haven’t neglected it all that time.
In between rainshowers some of the Quimper Hittys took a little wander in the spring bulb garden pots – Gillyflower wondered if the cat wanted to play with her!
I had an elegant dollhouse rug, but plebeian family of dolls. When the Hittys decided that they required a carpet bag, I determined to see if I could effect the transformation for them…
